Tom and Jerry is an American series of animated short films created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera for MGM. These short films are part of the Tom and Jerry franchise.
The series was launched after the success of the one-shot cartoon Puss Gets The Boot (1940). It featured prototypical versions of Tom and Jerry called "Jasper" and "Jinx", though the latter name was only used on the studio's model sheets.
The shorts aired as part of MGM Television's and CBS' Tom and Jerry TV show.
