The Dot and the Line: A Romance in Lower Mathematics (better known as The Dot and the Line) is a 1965 MGM short directed by Chuck Jones. It is based on the 1963 book of the same name written and illustrated by Norton Juster. Jones would later go on to direct the 1970 animated film adaptation of Norton Juster's novel The Phantom Tollbooth.

  • This was one of only two non-Tom and Jerry animated short subjects to be released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer post-1958. The other one is "The Bear That Wasn't".
  • It was the final MGM animated short to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. It won the award in 1965.
