Hungry Bear is a mischievous and gluttonous bear who appears in the animated Barney Bear cartoon Barney's Hungry Cousin. He is well-known for his cunning nature and relentless pursuit of food, particularly that of his cousin, Barney Bear.

Charactereristics[]

Personality[]

Hungry Bear is cunning, resourceful, and primarily driven by his insatiable appetite. He is adept at devising schemes to steal food and often outsmarts his cousin Barney in the process.

Appearance[]

He is a brown bear, who has red scalp with long muzzle, with buck teeth sticking out from them. He is notably taller and thinner than Barney. Unlike Barney he does wear clothes.

Abilities[]

While he possesses no supernatural abilities, Hungry Bear showcases impressive agility and cleverness, allowing him to evade capture while pursuing his food cravings.

Background[]

In Barney's Hungry Cousin, Hungry Bear is introduced as Barney Bear's cousin, who arrives at Jellystone National Park with an eye on Barney's picnic basket. Despite the existence of warning signs telling visitors not to feed bears, Hungry Bear employs crafty tactics to convince Barney to share his feast.

Role in Barney's Hungry Cousin[]

Upon arriving at Jellystone National Park for a picnic, Barney Bear finds himself the target of his hungry cousin, who quickly buries all "Do Not Feed The Bears" signs.

As Barney prepares to enjoy his meal, Hungry Bear swoops in, stealing food before Barney can even take a bite, leading to a series of comedic and chaotic chases.

Despite Barney's various attempts to rid himself of Hungry Bear—ranging from driving up a giant tree to feeding him dynamite and throwing him off a cliff—Hungry Bear consistently outsmarts him and continues to devour Barney’s food.

Eventually, in a moment of frustration, Barney offers his last sandwich to Hungry Bear, who surprisingly refuses and instead reinstates the buried warning signs.

The plot takes a twist when Hungry Bear uses a whistle to summon the "U.S. Rangers Anti-Bear Feeding Patrol," who arrive to arrest Barney and imprison him in an armored truck.

In a final reveal, Hungry Bear is shown to be the driver of the truck, snatching a lollipop from Barney just as he attempts to enjoy it.

Trivia[]

  • Although he is Barney's apparent cousin, it was not point out in the cartoon itself as he and Barney don't acknowledge it.
