Half-Pint Pygmy is a 1948 George and Junior cartoon directed by Tex Avery.
Notes[]
- The working title was "Half Pint Pigmy".
- This is the last George and Junior short. The two shorts "Look Out Below" and "George and Junior's Christmas Spectacular" were made for What a Cartoon!
- This cartoon features the very different designs of George and Junior. The two look more "fluffier" here. Unsurprisingly they were designed by former Disney artist Louie Schmitt in this cartoon rather than Irv Spence who made their previous more Avery-like designs. Apparently, it failed to gain favor with audiences and was never used again for any subsequent releases.
- This short is seldom seen nowadays as it's rather racially insensitive and the fact that George and Junior kill themselves at the end.
- At the end of this cartoon, George breaks the fourth wall as he pulls down the MGM end title card before blowing his brains out, as an added bonus, the camera also shakes two times as they blast themselves.
- At the end, George and Junior say "D'oh" before they end themselves. The expression would later become popular in the 90s thanks to The Simpsons.
- This is the only short of 1948 not to be reissued.
- The octopus in this short makes a cameo appearance in the 1988 Disney/Touchstone film Who Framed Roger Rabbit as a bartender at the Ink & Paint Club. He also appeared in the crowd of Toons in the final scene.
