Blackboard Jumble is the 20th Droopy cartoon released in 1957.

Plot

An educational teacher dog who resembles Butch literally loses his mind over the kids and leaves the schoolhouse dramatically, and then decides to give the job to the first person he sees which is the Southern Wolf. He gives the job to him (speaking normally and twitching at the same time) and then runs off into the distance unhinged.

The rest of the cartoon plays as the Southern Wolf is being tormented by the kids, which have him going insane by the end of the cartoon.

Notes

• Droopy does not speak in this cartoon outside of the title card, nor does he act like his normal self acting more like a rowdy kid along with the other two.
  • Due to this characterization, it is believed that the cartoon does not actually feature Droopy himself.
• Unlike other shorts, the three Droopy lookalikes act as antagonists of the cartoon. Meanwhile the Southern Wolf acts as the hapless protagonist here.
• The cartoon's plot is similar to "The Three Little Pups" serving as a sequel to said short where it involves the Southern Wolf and the three basset hound pups. It also reuses some of the gags and animation (on different backgrounds) from that cartoon.
• This is also the only Droopy cartoon in which The Southern Wolf and Butch appear together.

Censorship

• In most American TV airings, particularly the version currently shown on MeTV, the scene where the stereotypical southern wolf wants the Droopy kids to finger-paint the Confederate flag (and the stars are added after the Southern Wolf gets hit on the head) was cut, due to the Confederate flag being a highly controversial flag in American history.
